Almost perfect, has design flaw

My spouse originally purchased this tent for me around Valentine’s Day as a gift for my upcoming camping and dog show season. I asked specifically for this tent off of the reviews and the manufacturers own stated and implied weather resistance and water repellence. This first tent on the first use failed in a single rain storm leaving us completely soaked and needing a hotel room. My spouse contacted core directly for their customer service to state the tents waterproofing had failed. Their initial response? “Our tents aren’t meant for inclement weather” they refused to take responsibility or help him troubleshoot any issues. Instead they passed the buck around and I left a very negative review, I was then questioned on if it was set up correctly - if it had been properly used etc. I have been camping 30+ years of my life and have tons of experience, I pointed out their tent failure made me have to buy a different tent that was much more complicated to put up in the first place. Finally they settled on replacing the tent and including the extended rain fly as an act of good faith. This still left me out nearly $400 in replacement tent purchase AND motel expenses. Now I have used the new tent twice with both the original small rainfly and the optional extended rainfly. There is a massive design flaw in these tents and it’s in the original rain fly, it’s too short and the top being fully screen means any wind will send rain right up into the tent. Now that’s why this is a 3 star review, the product in theory is great, the original rain fly is a huge flaw. The upgraded rain fly is what is standard with Coleman tents - what they give as a “standard” rain fly is nothing more than a glorified canopy. If you’re buying this tent spend the extra money get the extended rain fly. It’ll save you headache and money. Onto setup, this tent is absolutely amazing, I LOVE this tent. It’s so easy I can do it myself as a single person that’s actually disabled. I do wish that the location of the door was marked more clearly to make putting it on the footprint an easier adventure. The lighting in this tent does not work with most battery packs - you need to use the included core pack with d cell batteries and I have yet to look if they sell a rechargeable one. But the lighting in this tent 10/10, just bright enough and the nightlight feature is perfect for my own 7 year old daughter as she feels secure and safe with that light. The ventilation in this tent is 10/10 with the included small rain fly, but then you’re left with the potential for getting very very wet in a pop up storm that has any wind. With the optional extended rain fly it’s minimal, actually much better for late season camping such as Labor Day weekend that we are wrapping up now. This tent goes up easy but getting it put back down and small enough to fit in its storage bag is difficult, it takes two people to do no matter which way I try because there’s a certain way each tent needs to fold to fit. It’s very frustrating but something I can deal with. Overall if you’re looking for a super easy setup tent, one with lighting, this is that tent, if you want to stay dry buy the extended rain fly. It’s a headache but it is worth it.

I Upscaled to this Tent

I bought this tent just recently and set it up at home. It was very easy to setup, so nice design. Does this tent have an attachable canopy for either side? The only comment I would make that would make this a 5 star rating would be a solar powered option vs battery powered. My first camping trip is scheduled for May. Stay tuned.

AWESOME TENT

I work at Cabelas in Montana I m the camping lead. When this tent came on our truck I fell in love with it right away. Kudos to whoever made this tent! Love the zipper design. My husband n I put it up no problem n in a few minutes, camped in it for 3 days. Had 2 cots n dog bed but still had room for 2 chairs n end table incase it rained. It got cold but I think our Mr buddy heater would keep it warm. I mention to bring it but my husband said we don't need it. Temps drop to 30 degrees or lower but I was very satisfied with this tent. I also purchased the wearable camp blanket, I couldn't figure it out but it still kept me warm. Looking forward to getting more products from core.

Is it possible (or necessary) to get a “Full Rainfly” for this 9-person lighted instant tent? We had a Coleman with a similar shape and “sun porch” room and it turned into an indoor swimming pool nearly four inches deep a couple times.
